My Summer in Australia

Hi people! How are vacations treating you? Summer’s almost over, and I don’t want to leave Australia! I never thought I would have so much fun from a school’s summer camp. On today’s blog I will tell you the most enjoyable things I did here, which are definitely surfing and cricket.

Everyone knows Australia’s a very hot place. Thus, sometimes after classes we went to Shelly Beach just to hang out. My friend Thomas told me Australia has the best waves in the world, and that he would teach me how to surf them. I’m from a landlocked city,
how was I supposed to know how to surf? Anyways, after this summer I think I became an almost-acceptable surfer. Still, my favorite part of our trips to the beach was getting a “Lamington” in the beach’s restaurant. A Lamington is a typical Australian dish, which is some kind of chocolate cake with coconut. It’s delicious!

Another thing I really enjoyed was when we played cricket in campus. Before I didn’t know how to play cricket, and I barely knew what it was. But here in Australia cricket is a very popular sport, and soon my friends taught me the basics of how to play. It is somehow like baseball, but here you run from one side of a rectangular fringe to another, making “runs”. You can also send the ball out of the field like a homerun, making 6 runs. The batters can also be “safe” or “out”, like in baseball. My Australian friends absolutely hate that I relate cricket with baseball so much! But I’m from Boston; Red Sox are in my blood, I can’t help it!

Anyways, I had so much fun in this trip! I still have one more week here. I would absolutely love if you could tell me some places to visit before I leave!

   My best wishes to everyone!
